We are the Natural Refrigeration Foundation, the world’s leading resource for evidence-based science to support the most earth-friendly refrigerants, which will drastically reduce greenhouse gases. It’s Cool science. The Foundation is a 501 c (3) non-profit, education, research and training association dedicated to the natural refrigeration industry. Founded in 2006 by the membership of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR), it’s partnerships and alliances have grown to include GCCA, RETA, ASHRAE, schools and trade associations.

Foundation Awards
Supporting the talent development of our industry is a main focus. The Foundation awards scholarships to engineering students and has developed a specific student track in coordination with the IIAR (International Institute of All-Natural Refrigeration) conference each year. Relationships are developed with academic institutions to include trade and technical programs in order to encourage the best skills for the refrigeration industry and demonstrate the many employment opportunities available.

Founders’ Engineering Scholarship
The industrial refrigeration industry is a multi-disciplinary field which offers exciting job opportunities in virtually all engineering fields of study, including but not limited to: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Environmental, Industrial and Manufacturing, Agricultural, and Chemical Engineering, as well as Computer Science, Automation, and Mechatronics. Engineers working in the industrial refrigeration industry have the opportunity to help address the urgent issue of climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by applying environmentally friendly natural refrigerants using existing and new technologies to energy efficient refrigeration and heat pump systems.

Our Founders Scholarship is awarded by the Natural Refrigeration Foundation (NRF) each year to incoming collegiate Juniors and Seniors exhibiting exceptional character and an interest in pursuing an engineering or related technical degree leading to a career in the refrigeration field. Learn more about the NRF and its mission in providing education, research and scholarships for the Natural Refrigeration Industry. The scholarship also provides additional funds for attending IIAR’s Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo during the Spring of their Junior year.
